Kelpies, Wallace and Rob Roy
This is a tour which has its first stop at the world famous giant sculpture of the Kelpies. Your group will be amazed at the spectacle of these phenomenal Sculptures in central Scotland just a short trip from both Glasgow or Edinburgh. Your driver will give you lots of information about the site including a few less well known details not found on the information boards. A full hour is plenty of time to walk round these awesome giants and take plenty of photos before moving on.
The next stop, just a few minutes away is the Falkirk Wheel, an immensly interesting engineering project that ingeniously joins two canals. The visitor centre here also has a cafe allowing your party to view the "Wheel" and have a coffee break at the same time.
Stirling Castle is again not too far away and is the next stop. This castle is probably the best castle in Scotland for visitors as there are multiple facets of interest including life as it was (displays) in the 1500's. Even the views and walks around the battlements are astounding.
After lunch, the next stop is the Wallace Monument, yes that is "the" Wallace of Braveheart fame. The incredible monument will leave a lasting impression not just of the views from its commanding position above "Stirling Bridge" but also the history of the memorial and what it commemorates.
Doune Castle is the next stop and is a familiar castle to most having featured in many films including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander. The castle is again just a few miles away from your last stop and despite its film appearances is a great place to visit in its own right. Your overnight stop is half an hour away in the stunning town of Callander in the Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
Day 2 starts with a journey into the Highlands along a road that was originally a drove road for cattle going from the Western Highlands to the Central Scotland markets. An appropriate road to travel since our next stop is at Balquhidder Church and the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor. A thief who stole cattle from the rich, took his share and gave the rest to the unfortunate poor. Your driver will give you a fascinating insight into life in Scotland at that time.
Half an hour away over the Glen Ogle mountain pass we go to the town of Killin and the Falls of Dochart and the ancient Clan MacNab burial ground and monument. The river and the falls are a great spectacle when the waters are flowing near full capacity and the bridge is an ancient crossing with the Clan Mcnab burial ground on an island in the river.
Killin also has an exceptional example of an old longhouse dating to the 19th century and portrays family living in Scotland at that time. Moirlanich Longhouse is just a few minutes from our last stop.
A journey of about 40 minutes along the mighty Loch Tay we arrive at Kenmore and a welcoming coffee and snack lunch at the Scottish Crannog Centre where the lives of Scots can be immagined in this great example of Scotlands Pre-history era.
Scone Palace is the next exciting venue on your tour, the place where Scottish Kings were crowned and the real home of the Stone of Destiny. Your driver will tell you the stories of the Stone of Destiny its theft and final returning to Scotland, or did it? From Scone you will travel back to your departure point.
